Glad to be featured in SGX’s “50 Stocks | 50 Market Voices” special series, bringing together 50 leading stockbrokers and advisors to share one Singapore-listed company from the iEdge Singapore Next 50 Index that has caught our attention.
A big thank you to the SGX team, especially Amanda Huang and Shimona Wong, for inviting me to be part of this initiative.
The Next50 looks beyond the traditional STI blue chips, shining a spotlight on companies that could become Singapore’s next generation of established listed businesses. For investors, it’s a useful way to discover some of the less-followed names on SGX.
For my contribution, I chose Golden Agri-Resources (GAR). I see an interesting longer-term story here, with palm oil’s growing role in Indonesia’s biodiesel strategy, particularly through B50, alongside tight supply and rising biodiesel demand. Combined with GAR’s strong balance sheet and reasonable valuation, I think there’s a compelling story worth watching.
I enjoyed seeing the different perspectives from the other contributors in this fourth edition, spanning property, healthcare, REITs, aviation and technology.
If you invest in Singapore, I’d encourage you to explore the Next50 names - there are plenty of businesses beyond the usual blue-chip names that are worth understanding.
I’m also looking forward to taking my GAR research further and hopefully meeting their IR team to better understand the business and management’s outlook. The numbers tell part of the story; speaking directly with the company can add even more color.
On a separate note, I’ve also been invited for a company visit involving one of the long-standing names and former darlings of the Singapore equity market. More on that after the visit.
